Over the past decade, British companies have been flooding the market with Pre-paid Funeral plans that provide you with your pre-paid funeral so that you can tailor it to the way you want your funeral to be. These were great, but as the name suggests, you have to pay for them upfront with a lump sum payment. Some companies offered a facility to make payments in instalments for the first year or so.
With Covid 19 causing so many deaths in many European countries, these companies have been very busy arranging and getting these funerals done, with some clients perhaps having to forego their original funeral plans.

THE EXPAT FUNERAL PLAN IN PORTUGAL.
The funeral Plan we offer covers insured parties and their beneficiaries for all of the necessary services regarding death, at the time of death and afterwards. At a very difficult time of personal loss, relatives and loved ones don’t have to concern themselves with funeral arrangements and paperwork.
FAMILY FUNERAL INSURANCE PORTUGAL.
Funeral and cremation insurance is now available as an annual policy and can also be used to protect your whole family, up to a maximum of 8 family members can be named on the policy, which reduces the cost of funeral insurance per person.
MAKING A WILL IN PORTUGAL.
These funeral policies can include the drafting of a will and offer the opportunity to change or alter your will once every year.
AGE RESTRICTIONS ON FUNERAL PLANS IN PORTUGAL.
Our Insurance provider will offer funeral insurance up to the age of 70. If you have the funeral insurance in force up to the age of 90, you no longer pay a premium and you will be covered for the rest of your life.
FUNERAL INSURANCE OUTSIDE OF PORTUGAL.
Our funeral plans will offer you up to 90 days cover outside of Portugal. It will include roundtrip air fares or the most appropriate form of transportation, as well as accommodation and food expenses up to a limit of €1.500. Additionally, assistance is offered for minors that are dependants of the insured at the time of death.
LEGAL ADVICE CONCERNING A DEATH IN PORTUGAL.
Our Funeral Insurance plans include the offer of advice via telephone on topics relating to wills, death, inheritance, distribution of the estate, pension plans and Social Security benefits, life insurance and family benefits.
Legal Advice is offered with access to a network of lawyers and legal assistance via phone for the prevention of any dispute, in addition to in-person assistance with verbal guidance ( 3 interviews per year). Additionally, revision and drafting of documents and contracts is included ( sale, purchase, rent, claims against the community of property owners and consumer complaints).
HOME HELP AFTER THE DEATH OF A SPOUSE IN PORTUGAL.
In the event of death, the provision of services in the home to help with domestic tasks, care of children, the elderly or disabled persons, as well as the care of pets is covered.
DIGITAL DELETION AFTER DEATH.
Digital deletion on personal accounts, social networks, websites, e-mail services and digital storage is included for a maximum of four accounts or websites. Legal action will not be taken and does not apply to websites located in China.
PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSISTANCE AFTER DEATH.
A 24-hour 365-day service for guidance about the opportunity to receive Psychological assistance for first degree relatives is available by telephone.

Travel assistance..
In the event of serious illness or accident for a resident of Portugal, transport in an ambulance is covered in the event of being more than 30 km from the residence. Abroad, for trips of up to 90 days, the following is covered:- Medical repatriation, a companion in the event of hospitalisation for more than 48 hours, an interpreter, emergency medical expenses, assistance for minor etc.
Transportation in the event of death or long-term stays abroad.
For stays of up to one year, transport from any place in the world to Portugal is covered, as well as a roundtrip ticket via airplane or appropriate collective public transport for a companion in the repatriation, and assistance for minor that are dependents of the insured at the time of death.
DOCUMENTS TO DEAL WITH A FUNERAL IN PORTUGAL.
Funeral insurance also covers the required legal paperwork and the arranging of the funeral and services. They also deal with the documents related to aspects of private life is covered, which include, birth certificates, marriage certificates, the request for pension and disability pensions from the INSS.
OTHER FUNERAL PLAN OPTIONS IN PORTUGAL.
Other options to cover funerals, cremations and funeral expenses is to contract a small life insurance in Portugal. Our life insurance policies will pay out an immediate, initial payment upon presentation of the death certificate, to facilitate the cost of the funeral or cremation.
